We stayed at the Tuckhouse from 29/3 - 5/4 and had a great time. It is a few minutes literally from the main Gondola slope so has great access on ski’s. We have skiied France for the last 15 years and were really pleased how reasonable everything was in Austria.
The Apartment is very cosy and had good DVD’s and a PS2 to keep children and adults entertained.
We hired a car and did manage to ski on 2 other areas, one of which was Wagrain which is only 10 minutes away in a car.

Stayed at the Tuckhaus Easter 2008 and it snowed and snowed and snowed for 3 days! Plenty of ski-ing in good powder! The apartment was almost too cosy to leave, very well presented, warm and clean with the added attraction of being very close to the piste. All the restaurants we visited were excellent. Two very good and well stocked supermarkets in Flachau.
A brilliant, relaxing holiday was had by all, including our two teenagers!!

Carnavalsvakantie doorgebracht in Tuckhause in Flachau.

We have just arrived back home after our first visit to Flachau and we were lucky enough to be the first visitors to Tuckhaus! Have already started to recommend Flachau and Tuckhaus to friends and family! We have given some honest feedback below. Apologies for any typos!!
We were lucky enough to find Tuckhaus when we were looking for a last minute New Year break. Helen, Kevin and family had just finished equipping the apartment as had the other owners of the neighbouring apartments. This is a new development on the piste and there is still building work in progress but it did not spoil our trip in any way. The access road to the apartment is a bit steep but it did not cause us a problem even with a pram, a 7 year old and a shed full of wine!!!
We had a fantastic week in a very comfortable, warm, well equipped modern apartment which is an ideal and convienant base for skiiers and non skiiers. Dad Craig, spent a great week on the slopes; Alice our 7 year old progressed from complete beginner at the Hermann Maier ski school to skiing on the mountain by the end of the week and winning the ski school race! Angus, our 21/2 year old wouldn’t settle in kindergarten but has become a great sledger and a wannabe snowboarder! Mum, Morag, a complete none skiier was planning some individual lessons but had to cancel due to uncooperative Angus! Never mind, plenty to explore, including Salzburg which is only 40 mins drive away - some great shoe shops in Altenmarkt (about 3kms from Flachau... well I did save on the lessons and ski hire!!!!) as well as great lunches, good walking (there are some lovely winter trails part of which can be walked with a snow friendly pram) and apres skiing with Craig and Alice!
Flachau is a completely unspoilt area of Austria which has managed to ensure that it has not become a tourist resort - not an Irish Bar in sight but still plenty of good places to eat, fantastic apres skiing atmosphere and lots of fun! And it’s skiing facilities are second to none! Craig has been on a few skiing holidays in France and Italy and would definitely put Flachau at the top of the list. We just hope it remains a well kept secret!
Tuckhaus is a first class apartment and just as it is described on the website. Helen, Kevin and family were excellent hosts!
A few tips after our week would be;
Although everything is within walking distance, we would recommend a car. There is so much to explore around and some really good options on the skiing front that it just made our stay really convienant. But that was just us - a car is not a necessity and there are excellent bus links to the other ski lifts around! Car hire at Salsburg airport is really easy though - you come out of arrivals, cross the road and you are at all the car hire desks. Car hire return prooved a little more difficult as the sign for return was not lit - and we drove round a few times. So watch out for that one! It is the first ’p’ sign and you drive down a ramp underneath the main car park.
There is a kindergarten called Penguin at the main ski slope. You go into the ski hire shop which is opposite the main gondola station to access it(has a penguin on the roof). I think we went on a bad day and it would be worth checking it out and making your own mind up. Cost is 8 Euros per hour and it is open 10am to 3pm. They seem to do quite a bit for older toddlers as they have a miniclub area on the mountain as you get off the main gondola.
If you don’t like Penguin, try the kindergarten facilities at Hotel Felsenhof which is just about 2km from Flachau. Although the facilities are for residents only, they will take non resident children if they have room. It is run by Sonia, who although lovely and spoke good English, could not comfort our high maintenance 2 year old!!! Cost there is 10 euros per hour and it is open from 9.30 to 3pm. Telephone 004364512251.
For an excellent night out with good food we would recommend the Musistadl. It is only a 5 minute walk from the apartment - great food, wine and live music every night from 9pm. Children are made really welcome but remember people can still smoke inside in Austria! The music is just good old fashioned sing along fun with a great atmostphere. Best to book even mid week.
If you don’t have all your skiing and cold weather gear - don’t stress before you go. The town of Altenmarkt has got some excellent ski shops and we were able to buy Angus some excellent snow boots there as we had only got his bob the builder wellies!!! Only about 3kms from Flachau.
For good apres skiing, an excellent sledging hill and a gentle beginners slope head to the area to the right as you look at the main mountain in Flachau. Basically walk in front of the main gondola station towards the ski school and nursery slopes - if you look ahead you will see some big yellow umberellas in the distance and just follow the path through the snow and it is less than a 5 minute walk! Be there early to try and grab one of the lovely couches inside or outside!
For excellent cosy lunches try the restaurant by the main gondonla - can’t remember the name but if you are looking at the entrance to the gondonla walk to your right and walk up the side of the lift station and you will see it in front of you. They only accept cash though!
Don’t go to the Spar in Flachau at around 4.30pm - it is packed and it can be a bit stressful if you don’t know what you are looking for!
Some of the card machines in the shops (including the ski hire shop that we used) do not accept cards with the card number across the middle. Austrian Switch and Visa cards do not have a card number running through the middle of the card. They were not able to over ride it in any way so it meant a few trips to the cash machine! The supermarket as you come into Flachau is one such place so make sure you have cash before you get to the till otherwise it can be a bit stressful!!
Finally, take your bubble bath - Tuckhaus has a lovely bathroom with cosy underfloor heating and hot water is in plentiful supply. What ever adventures your day has given you fill your wine glass, run a lovely bath, lie back and relax!
I hope our experiences have been useful... if you are thinking about booking Tuckhaus, don’t think too much and just go for it... you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!
