Sportwelt Area

Flachau

Being the home of Herman Miaer "Herminator"  one of the greatest downhill skiers in the Austrian ski team you are sure to find some fantastic slopes.  Flachau is part of a large ski area covering a dozen villages within very easy reach of the city of Salzburg. The main resorts are linked by lift with regular buses serving other villages within the ski area.

This easily accessible ski area is extremely popular with Austrians and Germans but much underrated by British visitors. St Johann-im-Pongau is the regional capital of this part of Salzburgland and is a ski resort in its own right having a small ski area and from the pistes above the town you get a panoramic view of the cathedral.

The areas which will interest skiers more are Alpendorf,  Wagrain,  Flachau, and Zauchensee, all linked by a complex network of modern lifts. Other skiing resorts in the area are  Radstadt/Altenmarkt and Filzmoos adding extra variety with all these areas being included in the regional Amadé lift pass along wth other resorts furher away such as Bad Gastein, Bad Hopgastein & Schladming to name but a few.

Wagrain and Flachau are the most centrally placed and convenient resorts with the ski area of Zauchensee is a few minutes' bus or car ride away.

Filzmoos, which is the hot air balloon capital of the Austrian Alps, shares its ski area with neighbouring Neuberg  and is just off the edge of the ski circuit but easily accessed by car.

The whole Wagrain region comprises a dozen resorts served by 93 lifts covering undulating pastures and woodland as well as a handful of rounded 2000m summits. The area should prove enormously enjoyable for the vast majority of skiers with something to please everyone regardless of ski ability.

Lift systems are mainly fast and modern, allowing you to travel a considerable distance from scenic valley to valley in a single day. With an efficient post-bus service making the area appealing to all visitors.

A panoramic view of Flachau pistes can be opened here you have a choice of 3 areas
